Alfred Mendelsohn

Dr. Alfred Mendelsohn has over 25 years of experience in the development and applications of materials for electric power cables. Al was Associate Director at Union Carbide and Senior R&D Leader at Dow Chemical, after their merger with Union Carbide, where he led R&D activities for improved materials for Wire & Cable applications. He has also been active in the electric utility industry, with participation and papers at key industry meetings worldwide.  He has represented Dow at NEETRAC and has served as Chair of NEETRAC’s Advisory Board since its inception in 1998 till his retirement from Dow in 2009. He is currently an officer of the IEEE ICC Administrative Committee and Chair of its Educational Subcommittee and is also a member of the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) Advisory Committee.

Since his retirement from Dow Chemical in 2009, Al has been actively involved with the application of Partial Discharge (PD) technology to the condition assessment of critical electrical components. He is associated with Techimp HQ Spa, an Italian based company who is a global leader in PD technology and its application to effective diagnosis and monitoring of critical electrical components, including cables, generators, transformers, switchgear and GIS.  Al is also a consultant to the electric utility industry and remains active in key electric utility industry meetings.

3. 2nd speaker:  In addition to the detailed presentation by the main speaker, we will insert a short, 5 to 10 minute “lightning talk” at 7:00 between dinner and the main presentation.

 PE CREDITSDepending on the subject matter, attendance at IEEE Cincinnati Section Meetings now qualifies the attendee for Professional Development Hours towards renewal of Professional Engineers Licenses. Required documentation will be available following the meeting!  The Section Meetings also provide a great opportunity to network with fellow engineers in the area.
