BOPP, Calvin C., beloved husband of Margarete “Gretchen” (nee Tiefert) Bopp of 71 years; devoted father of Marty (Marcia) Bopp, Janice (Bruce) Bopp, Richard (Emily) Bopp, and Genie Bopp; loving grandfather of Monica, Jennifer, Heather, Nicholas, Nathan, and Whitney and great grandfather of Nicholas, Demerise, Sebastian, Samantha, Saskia, Max, Grace and Layla. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Carl, Frank, Janice, Helen. Calvin passed away on March 5, 2014 at age 95. He began an illustrious career in electrical engineering working in his Father’s repair shop where he used his talent and ingenuity to build and repair clocks, radios, lawn mowers and everything else mechanical and electrical. In 1942, he graduated from the University of Cincinnati in Electrical Engineering. He was a pioneer in television as the Chief Engineer for Crosley Broadcasting, and the creator of key components enabling color TV. He was also the chief engineer for the development and operation of the Voice of America during WWII. He continued his career with AVCO Electronics, where he was an early researcher in application of the transistor and was awarded six patents for his inventions. As space systems were developed at NASA, Cal headed a group that designed compact communications systems used in the Gemini and Apollo Programs. After retirement he continued to work with small electronics start up companies and worked on a NATO project in England. Calvin was an extraordinary person, gifted with both engineering brilliance, and artistic talent. He loved life and all the people in his life. He was known by everyone as an intelligent, kind, and gentle person. He spent his life doing things to help others and to make the world better for everyone. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Wyoming Baptist Church, 170 Burns Avenue, Wyoming, OH 45215
